Lights and Pedestrian Access

Most of the lights (lamp posts)  will remain on the Commons until the new lighting is installed in 2014. The lamp posts on the planters are being removed this week as the demolition and removal of the concrete planters continues. A few of the lamp posts on the walkway will be moved to a location within the construction fence. Did you ever notice that the lamps posts sitting on the planters are shorter than the lamp posts on the walkway?  The lights will eventually be re-used in the city. The exact location has not yet been determined.

The Downtown Ithaca Alliance will soon have bright flags flying from many of the lamp posts. This is another way we are reminding the community and visitors that the Commons is open for business – shopping and dining.

By the end of the day on Wednesday, the construction fence will be complete on bank alley with a walk way on both sides to the main Commons.  The construction fence around the west end is done with walk ways on both sides and two north /south pedestrian crossings. Pedestrian access is available to all businesses on the Commons. There are signs at each entrance welcoming people to Shop, Dine and Play!  as well as the Commons Rules.
