Even though there is no active construction work on the Commons this week, rest assured, Phase 2 – the replacement of the underground utilities – has begun. Vacri Construction started Phase 2 on July 29, 2013. The behind-the-scenes work currently underway will set the stage for active construction to begin in August.
The contractor has reviewed the engineering drawings and is submitting material specification for review. They will be on site in the next two weeks to do surveying and marking out existing conditions. Vacri is working with their suppliers to produce shop drawings and fabricate the new manhole structures and catch basins, which are formed from pre-cast concrete and steel. These items will be sourced from manufacturers in Binghamton, NY and will be shipped to the site when they are ready.
In order to honor the commitment for Phase 2 to be complete by November 27, 2013, the contractors will need to work five 10-hour days per week. Once the contractors are on site, the work schedule will be Monday -Friday, 7:00AM-5:30PM. While daylights savings time is still in effect, the schedule may shift slightly to 7:30AM-6:00PM, or as long as daylight permits.
