VIBRATIONS AND PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS

Once the water main is installed the area is backfilled. A crawler-backhoe is being used on site for compacting the fill once it is in place. Soil Compaction is a vital part of the construction to support structural entities. In this case the compaction is used to support the structural integrity of the new water main, so it is secured in place. As a result of the compaction process, vibrations may be felt through the buildings.

If you have any questions, or concerns during this process, please don’t hesitate to contact the Outreach Coordinator, Tammy Baker, 607-220-8425, email tammy@downtownithaca.com or call the Project Office at 607-220-8425

With two crews working on the site, one working on the water main and one working on the sanitary manholes, the pedestrian crossings may be closed for longer periods as the many different construction vehicles are moving through the site. We thank you for your patience and cooperation during this important work.
