The new water main passed two of the four tests needed prior to being put into service. The first flush is complete and the pressure test passed. The new water main has been disinfected and flushed for a second time. Once the bacterial testing is complete then the process of hooking up each buildings existing water service to the new water main will commence.

Each property owner and tenant will be notified 24 hours in advance of when their building will be reconnected. The water to each individual building will be shut off in the sidewalk between 30 minutes and 2 hours during this work. The water main as a whole will not be shut down, only water to individual buildings.

The works could start as early as Monday, 9/30/2013, depending on the results of the bacteria testing of the new water main and the weather. Property owners have already been noticed for the possible work on Monday.

This week 130 feet of new sanitary main was installed in front of Race Building this week. Another sanitary manhole was replaced on State Street and one was removed. There is one more sanitary manhole to be replaced on the east end near Aurora Street. This work will happen both inside and outside the construction area. We will post on the website when that work will begin.

A new sanitary lateral was put in at 215 E State Street, in front of Diaspora, on Friday. You may have felt vibrations in your business as the result of the backfill being compacted. We apologize for any disruption this may have caused.

Please be aware that because it is a construction site, at any time pedestrians may need to be rerouted to one side of the Commons or asked to wait while construction vehicle(s) move through a pedestrian crossing. These disruptions could last a few minutes or for a few hours. We thank you for your patience and cooperation during this important work.
