NYSEG Gas is accelerating the pace of their work on the Commons by adding a second construction crew. They will also start working on Saturdays effective tomorrow 7/26. We do not know how long they will continue to work on the weekend but will update you as soon as new information is released. There will be a project team member on site each Saturday to monitor the work, assist with pedestrian access and coordinate with private property owners and merchants.
The purpose of adding a second crew and working on Saturday is to limit the impacts on the construction schedule for the project. This was not part of the original scope of the Commons Repair and Upgrade Project and it has been a challenge to coordinate both major projects simultaneously.
The Public Service Commission mandates that NYSEG replace its aging infrastructure whenever opportunities arise throughout the state. There is a high demand for natural gas service throughout the region and NYSEG has to allocate its finite resources to meet the needs of multiple municipalities. We are appreciative of NYSEG’s commitment to provide additional resources to the Commons.
